Import phone numbers

View as Markdown

Import phone numbers you already own from another provider into Infobip. This allows you to consolidate providers, migrate traffic without changing numbers, and retain your existing sender identity:

  • Import when you own numbers at another provider or are consolidating providers.
  • Buy through Infobip when you need new numbers quickly. For more information on purchasing numbers, see Get started with resources and numbers.

Prerequisites

You need:

  • Active Infobip account with SMS channel enabled
  • Phone number(s) active at another provider
  • Proof of ownership (Letter of Authority or receipt)

Number import requirements by country

Import requirements vary by country and carrier. Before starting, make sure to review the relevant documentation for your region:

Number import process

1

Gather ownership documentation
Get a Letter of Authority (LOA) from your current provider authorizing Infobip to manage the number(s), and a receipt or invoice as proof of ownership. Accepted formats: PDF, JPG, PNG.

2

Start import
Log in to your Infobip account, then go to Channels and numbers > Numbers > My numbers and select Import number.

3

Provide number details
Select the country, channels (SMS, MMS, Voice), and number type (VLN, short code, toll-free, or other). If the numbers carry traffic at another provider, enable Numbers are in active use elsewhere.

4

Enter phone numbers and upload documents
Enter up to 20 numbers in E.164 format, separated by commas (for example, +32 450 00 12 39, +32 450 00 12 38). Upload the LOA and optionally a receipt or invoice.

5

Submit
Review your details and select Submit. Your request enters the approval queue.

USA number imports

All USA number imports require proof of ownership, brand registration, and campaign registration before traffic can be enabled:

10DLC imports
Require proof of ownership and brand/campaign registration.

Short code imports
Require CSCA Lease Receipt, migration documentation, and brand/campaign registration.

Toll-free imports
Require proof of ownership, brand/campaign registration, and TFN verification.

After you submit an import request

Number import timeline [#number-import-timeline-after-you-submit-an-import-request]

Request processing involves two phases:

  1. Infobip review (typically 1-3 business days): Infobip validates your request and ownership documentation, verifies numbers are eligible for import, and contacts you if additional information is needed.
  2. Network provisioning (varies by country and carrier): The network provider processes the migration. Timelines vary from 3-14 days. For specific timelines, see SMS coverage and connectivity.

Total timeline: 5-21 days typically, depending on country and carrier.

Track your number import status [#track-your-number-import-status-after-you-submit-an-import-request]

Go to Channels and numbers > My requests and find your import request.

Possible statuses:

  • Pending: Being processed.
  • In review: Being evaluated by Infobip.
  • Action required: You need to provide additional information. See "Respond to feedback."
  • Completed: Import successful, numbers are active.
  • Rejected: Import could not be completed. Contact Support to understand why.

Respond to import feedback [#respond-to-import-feedback-after-you-submit-an-import-request]

If your request shows Action required status:

  1. Open the request in My requests.
  2. Select Edit request (or contact Support if the edit option is unavailable).
  3. Provide missing or corrected information as requested.
  4. Submit your update. Your request re-enters the review process.

Manage your imported numbers [#manage-your-imported-numbers-after-you-submit-an-import-request]

After import is complete, your numbers appear in My numbers. You can configure inbound routing, start sending messages, and update settings.

For details, see Manage resources.

Number costs and fees

  • One-time import fee: Per number being imported (varies by country).
  • Monthly recurring fee: Same as new number purchase for that country.
  • Charges apply only after successful import completion.

For specific pricing by country, contact your account manager or Support, or check SMS coverage and connectivity.

Number migration best practices

If your numbers are active at another provider:

1

Before migration
Update internal systems if needed and test Infobip integration in a staging environment.

2

During migration
Keep traffic on your original provider until Infobip confirms import is complete. Plan for a brief service interruption (5-30 minutes typical). Typically 1-3 days.

3

After migration
Verify numbers are receiving messages, monitor for delivery issues, and redirect all traffic to Infobip.

NOTEComplete imports outside peak traffic hours.
