Understanding short code vetting requirements

Short code brand vetting is handled by Aegis Mobile on behalf of the CTIA and US Short Code Registry. All brands must complete vetting when applying for new short codes or renewing existing unvetted codes.

Information required for vetting:

  • Legal company name
  • Legal entity type
  • Doing Business As (DBA) name
  • Country of registration
  • Stock market symbol (if applicable)
  • Company website URL
  • Federal tax ID (FEIN)
  • DUNS, GIIN, LEI (if applicable)
  • Brand address
  • Brand point of contact (first name, last name, phone, email)

Submit your short code brand for vetting

  1. Log in to your Infobip account
  2. Go to Channels and Numbers > Tools & Compliance > US Sender Registration
  3. Select Create brand, then select Short Code as the number type
  4. Enter brand details:
    • Legal company name (must match FEIN exactly)
    • Entity type (Business, Nonprofit, Government, and similar)
    • DBA name (optional)
    • FEIN (Federal Employer Identification Number)
    • Company website URL
    • Brand address
    • Brand point of contact (first name, last name, email, phone)
  5. Select Submit
  6. Aegis Mobile performs initial verification:
    • Legal name matches FEIN
    • Brand contact email is valid and relates to company's published URL
    • Company address matches business records
  7. A 2FA PIN is sent to the brand contact email from certify@aegismobile.com

Complete 2FA verification

The brand contact receives a 2FA PIN valid for 7 days.

Process:

  1. Aegis Mobile sends 2FA PIN from certify@aegismobile.com
  2. Brand contact receives email with verification link
  3. Select the VERIFY button in the email OR visit the URL and enter the PIN
  4. Confirmation sent - brand status becomes VERIFIED

Important timeline:

  • PIN valid for: 7 days
  • Reminder sent: 48 hours before expiration
  • If first PIN expires: Second and final PIN is sent automatically
  • If second PIN expires: New vetting request required
NOTEAdd certify@aegismobile.com to your safe senders list. Brand contact email must match company domain (no free email). Email domain must relate to the company official website.
Complete 2FA within the 7-day window to avoid expiration

Handle vetting failures

IssueResolution
INCOMPLETE statusVetting was unsuccessful because certain information does not meet requirements. Common reasons: information does not match company records, email does not match company domain, address does not match official records, or FEIN/legal name mismatch.

To appeal, review the Aegis Mobile notification to identify which information does not match. Gather your CP-575 notice (official IRS confirmation letter) and any corrected information, then email sms_compliance_operations@infobip.com with the CP-575, corrected information, and an explanation. Infobip forwards the appeal to Aegis Mobile. Expect a response within 5 to 7 business days.
2FA PIN expirationIf your first PIN expires, Aegis sends a second and final PIN automatically. Complete verification with the second PIN within 7 days. If the second PIN also expires, a new vetting request is required. Contact Infobip to initiate a new request.
2FA email not arrivingAdd certify@aegismobile.com to your safe senders list and check your spam/junk folder. Allow up to 24 hours for delivery. If the email still does not arrive, contact Infobip support for a resend.

Lease migration vetting requirements

When transferring management of a short code lease, brand vetting requirements depend on whether lease ownership is changing.

Re-vetting required when:

  • Lease ownership changes (you or Infobip takes over managing a lease from a previous direct content aggregator)
  • Brand information changes significantly

Re-vetting not required when:

  • Lease ownership stays the same (Infobip manages the code but it moves from one content provider to another)
  • Only content provider information is updated

Annual re-vetting

Short code brands must complete annual re-vetting by the Short Code Registry to maintain brand verification and continued compliance.

Annual re-vetting process:

  1. Short Code Registry sends re-vetting email to brand point of contact
  2. Email contains verification link and PIN
  3. Brand contact selects the VERIFY button or enters the PIN on the verification page
  4. Confirm email and other information
  5. Brand re-vetting completed

Timeline:

  • Must complete within 7 days of request
  • Reminder email sent 48 hours before deadline
  • If not completed: Brand may be suspended

If you miss the deadline:

  1. Short Code Registry sends final notice
  2. If still not completed within additional time: Short code may be deactivated
  3. To reactivate: Initiate new vetting request with Infobip
